Fortune smiles on Rainbow View
Jockey Jimmy Fortune is confident that he can land his second Glorious Goodwood feature race onboard Rainbow View in tomorrow’s group one Nassau Stakes.
Fortune, who expertly guided Laa Rayb to victory for Mark Johnston in the totesport Mile, will be leading Rainbow View into battle against a top quality field that includes a clutch of 4 year old group one winners and this season’s top performing filly – Sariska.
The jockey is hopeful that Rainbow View will overcome an indifferent season that has seen her struggle to fulfill the potential she showed as the 2 year old champion filly in 2008.
“She’s run a good race every time she’s run this season and has done nothing wrong,” Fortune told the Press Association. “She just hasn’t had her ground. The rain we had on Thursday will hopefully help but if we have a drying day then it’s back to good again. It’s just a pity the Nassau wasn’t on Thursday.”
“I think a mile and a quarter should be right for her and obviously I’d be hoping it’s going to rain. I think there are showers forecast so let’s hope they fall on the track as that would certainly help her cause.”
“It’s a competitive race, as you’d expect for a Group One, but I certainly haven’t lost faith in her. She’s working well, we’re very happy with her and I’m certain that when she gets proper soft ground she’ll come back to her best. She’s definitely up to winning a Group One and I wouldn’t swap her for anything else in the race.”
